Image and Video Size Limits and ‘Dimensions Not Supported’ Errors

 

Although you can upload large image and video files to the GatorSocial Media Library, you may still encounter an error message when adding that video to a social media post. If the error is similar to ‘dimensions not supported’, this is because of limitation in the social media platform.

GatorSocial connects to social media sites through the site’s API, so is restricted by the constraints of each API. Below is each social media site’s limitations. This is correct as of April 2023, but please check the links for the latest as these are likely to change over time.

 

Twitter

  • Up to 4 images, 1 animated GIF, or 1 video per Tweet

Images

  • Supported image formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP
  • Image size <= 5 MB

GIFs

  • GIF size <= 15 MB
  • Max resolution: 1280x1080
  • Frames <= 350
  • File Size <= 15 Mb

Videos

  • Frame Rates <= 60 FPS, recommended 30 or 60 FPS
  • Dimensions between 32x32 and 1280x1024, recommended 1280x720 (portrait or landscape) or 720x720 (square)
  • Duration between 0.5s and 140s

LinkedIn

Images Image API - LinkedIn | Microsoft Learn

  • Maximum dimensions 7360x4912
  • Supported image formats: JPG, GIF, PNG
  • Note that LinkedIn does not support the image carousel through the API

GIFs

  • Frames <= 250

Videos  Videos API - LinkedIn | Microsoft Learn

  • File size between 75 kb and 200 MB
  • Duration between 3s and 30 minutes
  • Format: MP4 only

Facebook

Images Images in Link Shares - Sharing (facebook.com)

  • Dimensions: minimum 200x200, recommended 1200x630
  • File Size < 8 MB

GIFs     Animated GIF - Instant Articles (facebook.com)

  • Dimensions: minimum 120x120

Videos  Reference - Video API (facebook.com)

  • File Size < 20 MB
  • Aspect Ratio: 9x16 or 16x9
